Gathering
to worship God is the center of our life together. We are
blessed to have a creative and vibrant music ministry and an
engaging and relevant preaching ministry.
Our pastors seek to explore with the congregation
through
preaching what it means to be a disciple of Jesus in our own
time and place. Their preaching is grounded in the firm
convictions that we are loved by God and in turn we are called
to a ministries of love.
Our music program nurtures and enriches the faith of
many
who worship in our congregation. Our music
director and our voice and bell choirs all bring tremendous
gifts to share. They work with dedication to prepare
pieces of music that tell of the wonder of God's grace and call
us to lives of faith. Our youth
and children's choirs also bring many gifts to our worship.
As we come together to worship God, our style of worship is
broadly traditional, but we strive not to be bound by that
tradition.
Drawing upon both the Presbyterian Hymnal (1990
- "the blue hymnal") and Sing!
A New Creation (2001
- green), we sing many beloved "old" hymns but also a mix of
newer hymns, folk hymns, praise songs, and music from the church
around the world. Our liturgy will be familiar to
life-long Presbyterians, but we also include prayers, sung
responses and other elements from the many traditions of the
church around the world to enrich our own faith and practice of
worshiping God.
We celebrate the many gifts of women and men in our
community as we gather to worship God.
Every week
we have a children's sermon that speaks to the children as well
as the children within all of us. Children and youth also
regularly help lead us in our worship in a variety of ways.
Women and men serve as elders, ushers, readers, liturgists, and
greeters. We make good use of the variety of our talents
and gifts!
We share the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper
on the first Sunday of every month. We also share communion each month as a part of
Vespers, our contemporary service.
